Lumi collaborated with the Vertebrate Conservation Biology Laboratory of UFES (Federal University of Espírito Santo) on a project focused on environmental education. The goal was to raise awareness among the public about the importance of preserving Brazilian fauna and flora, especially in ecosystems like the Atlantic Forest. Through explanatory videos in whiteboard format, we addressed essential topics to promote awareness about biodiversity and its interactions.

Context

In light of the growing need to expand knowledge about environmental conservation, the UFES Laboratory sought a didactic and accessible solution to communicate Brazilian biodiversity. Lumi was chosen to develop a series of videos in whiteboard format, capable of capturing the attention of different audiences and making scientific themes more accessible. The union of science and visual storytelling resulted in an effective solution for environmental education.

Challenges

The project's challenge was to communicate complex concepts of conservation biology clearly and engagingly, aiming to reach diverse audiences, such as schools, communities, and the general public. The task was not only to educate about the importance of preserving fauna and flora but also to encourage a change in attitude towards environmental conservation. Topics such as predation, biotic interactions, and ecosystem balance needed to be addressed simply while maintaining scientific rigor.

Objectives

  • Educate the public about the importance of preserving Brazilian ecosystems, with an emphasis on the Atlantic Forest.
  • Explain biological concepts such as predation, conservation, and biotic interactions in an accessible manner.
  • Promote environmental awareness by encouraging actions to preserve fauna and flora.
  • Make learning about biodiversity visually appealing through the whiteboard technique.

Process

Development of the Storyboard
The process began with detailed planning of the storyboard, developed in partnership with experts from the UFES Biology Laboratory. Topics such as vertebrate conservation, threatened biomes, and biotic interactions were structured clearly and sequentially, creating an accessible narrative for different age groups.

Production of Animations
With the approved storyboard, the whiteboard animations were produced, simplifying complex biological concepts without losing scientific depth. Dynamic illustrations helped explain ecological processes, facilitating understanding and keeping the audience engaged.

Distribution and Reach
The videos were distributed through digital platforms, such as YouTube and UFES's social media, ensuring accessibility for the target audience, including students, teachers, and the community in general. They were also used in workshops and lectures promoted by the Laboratory, expanding the reach and educational impact.

Solution

Lumi developed a series of explanatory videos in whiteboard format, where concepts of ecology, biodiversity, and conservation were presented clearly and engagingly. The visual and narrative simplicity of the whiteboard was ideal for translating science into accessible language, facilitating the understanding of important ecological topics.

Results

The series of videos had a significant impact, being praised by teachers and students for its didactic and visual approach. The initiative sparked greater interest in environmental conservation and the biodiversity of the Atlantic Forest. The project also solidified the image of the UFES Laboratory as a reference in scientific dissemination and environmental education, strengthening the connection between the university and the community, as highlighted in the client feedback.

I can only express my gratitude for the patience, professionalism, respect, and understanding. The work turned out beautiful and exceeded our expectations. Thank you!
